Characteristics of Apparitions

as recorded by G. N. M. Tyrell

(paraphrased and edited)

  1. Ghosts can appear as real and solid creatures. Their features and clothing can appear in perfect detail.

  2. Apparitions appear in three dimensions, and can be walked around and viewed from all perspectives.

  3. Apparitions, like real people, get dimmer as light gets dimmer and brighter as light increases.

  4. If a ghost were carrying a fragrant rose, you might be able to smell the rose.

  5. Ghosts can make noise -- you can hear the rustle of their clothing or the sound of their footsteps.

  6. Ghosts can be aware of the presence of humans.

  7. If a ghost should touch you, you would feel its touch.

  8. A ghost only appears to be solid however. If you touched it, your hand would go right through it.

  9. Ghosts can speak to you.

  10. Ghosts can be reflected in mirrors.

  11. Ghosts can cast shadows.

  12. Ghosts can carry apparitional objects.

  13. When a ghost approaches you, it will feel cold.

  14. Ghosts do not leave footprints.

  15. If you recorded a ghost speaking and then played back the tape, you would hear nothing.

  16. If you try to photograph a ghost, the photograph will probably not record the ghost.

  17. Ghosts disappear in a variety of ways: they can vanish, walk through walls, or fade into nothingness.

  18. Ghosts can appear luminous, or transparent, according to their whim.
